Taiwan is a very small island. The total area of Taiwan is only 36,193 km2. In the past, people in Taiwan had few options in transportation: bike, bus and train. Thanks to the growth of the economy and the advancement in technology, now there are a lot of options. Next, I will introduce three common ways of transportation.

Motorcycle
The most common transportation in Taiwan is motorcycle. Many residents live near their workplaces or schools, and the commuting distance is not very long. Thus, riding a motorcycle is very convenient and time-saving. Moreover, people can find a motorcycle parking space easily. On the contrary, taking a bus is a waste of time. If you drive to work, you might get stuck in a traffic jam. However, there are too many motorcycles in Taiwan. The motorcycle have caused serious air pollution. Hence, Taiwan government starts to promote electric motorcycles. In the future, maybe electric motorcycle will be the most common transportation in Taiwan.

Taipei MRT and Kaohsiung MRT
The second common-seen transportation is the MRT systems. MRTs in Taipei and in Kaohsiung are very clean and fast. MRT passengers can rest for a while or chat with their companions. Also, MRT is safer and more comfortable than a motorcycle. In Taipei, people choose to take the MRT because they don’t have to worry about the parking space. Also, the MRT stations are usually located near their work places, their homes, and some tourist spots. MRT Passengers will increase when it’s a rainy day. In Kaohsiung, there are fewer MRT passengers than in Taipei. The reason is that there are not many MRT stations located in Kaohsiung's business or residential areas. Instead, most MRT stations in Kaohsiung are located around tourist spots. This is more convenient for travelers.

Railway system
The third common-seen transportation is the railway system. There are many plains in the Western part of Taiwan. Therefore, in the Western Taiwan, the transportation systems are well-developed and provide more transporting options. For example, residents in the Western Taiwan can take the MRT and high speed rail. But for the people in the eastern part of Taiwan, they can only commute by train. Usually, people choose to take a train when the commuting time is too long. Additionally, most of the train passengers are students or foreign workers. They don't have a vehicle.

For travelers in Taiwan, train is the best transportation choice. People often travel to Hualian by train, not driving cars by themselves. On one hand, travelers can enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way. On the other hand, travelers can go to various places around Taiwan by train.

In addition to the above three kinds of transportation, there are other options, such as bike, bus, and light rail. Taiwanese can choose various transportations in their daily life. Travelers can use train to explore Taiwan. With so many transportation options in Taiwan, people can move, freely and easily, from one place to another place.
